"In the field of international textile and apparel, we are both competitors and collaborators. We hope that our cooperation in the international market will go further and better." Cao Jiachang, president of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles, is purchasing in the third Canadian apparel textiles. Said during the exhibition.
On August 22, local time, the three-day third Canadian Fashion Textiles Purchasing Exhibition came to an end at the Toronto International Center. More than 370 companies from more than 20 countries and regions including China, Canada, India, Bangladesh, Ukraine and Pakistan participated in the exhibition.
Talking about the current Sino-US trade friction, as the representative of the organizer of the exhibition, Cao Jiachang said to the reporter that the United States is also the largest single country market in China's textile and garment industry. The changes in the market have brought uncertainty and may put pressure on enterprises. .
"But the pressure has always existed, not now." Cao Jiachang said that with China's domestic economic development, rising labor costs, rising cost of production factors, and stricter environmental protection requirements, it has brought some pressure on textile and garment enterprises. As a traditional industry, the textile and garment industry will inevitably encounter more challenges in the process of transformation and upgrading.
Zhu Xianrong, president of Zhejiang Textiles Import and Export Group Co., Ltd., said that the textile and garment industry has seen a trend of shifting to the Southeast Asian gradient in recent years. Trade frictions may accelerate this trend, leading to faster order movements. He believes that enterprises need to develop more and deeper international markets, including Canada, while accelerating the layout and cooperation in Southeast Asia.
“Our flexible supply capability is relatively strong,” said Zhu Xianrong. Through this exhibition, it can generate more direct and in-depth docking with local distributors, master the characteristics of the Canadian market, understand local fashion trends, and launch products with higher hit rates. .
Many cashmere garment enterprises in Inner Mongolia also participated in the exhibition. Feng Baogang, secretary-general of the Inner Mongolia Import and Export Enterprise Association, said that Canada is sparsely populated, with high cost of logistics and labor, but it is greatly affected by the US market, and consumer recognition of cashmere products is gradually deepening. This exhibition is taking into account the possibility of market growth here.
Shen Junjun, executive deputy general manager of the cross-border trade operation center of Changshu Garment City from Jiangsu, said that this year, a number of companies with positive willingness were organized to participate in the exhibition. The main purpose is to open up the reputation in overseas markets and show the advantages of products while promoting Enterprises have changed some of the inherent concepts of the past domestic trade, and they have gone to the overseas market to find out, open their eyes, find gaps, and improve their effectiveness and confidence.
Cao Jiachang said that textile and garment exports played an important role in China's reform and opening up process. In the past 40 years of reform and opening up, the total number of textile and apparel exports in China has been rising. But he admits that the share of Chinese textile and apparel in the global market has declined in the past two years. In 2015, China's textile and apparel exports accounted for 38.5% of the global total. In 2016, this proportion fell to 36.7%.
"I personally think that the global share of China's textile and apparel industry may continue to decline," said Cao Jiachang. "This is not what I want to see as the president of the Chamber of Commerce, but I must accept this reality." But he stressed that this is The Chinese government and textile and garment enterprises themselves have experienced a decline in the process of promoting “quality improvement and efficiency improvement”, improving export structure, and promoting enterprise innovation-driven development. Global buyer orders have gradually turned to strategic changes in Southeast Asia and Africa, and have also had an impact on Chinese textile and apparel companies.
Cao Jiachang said that China is still the world's largest producer and exporter of textile and apparel. However, he hopes that through more global cooperation, China's textile and garment production capacity will be transferred to provide textile and apparel services to the world. He believes that the textile and garment industry can provide better products and services to the global consumer goods market, driven by the “high quality development” strategy of the Chinese government.
In addition to Canada, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles also holds an international procurement exhibition for apparel and textiles in Australia, the United States and Myanmar. Cao Jiachang said that the platform is built to better promote China's quality products to the international market, while attracting global peers to participate in a wider international interest sharing.
According to the preliminary feedback from the organizers, the first two days of this year's Canadian Apparel and Textiles Sourcing Fair were more than the previous two, and the number of major customers from some well-known department stores and clothing brands increased significantly.
